São Paulo agrees to return Dorival Júnior as coach

São Paulo arranged for Dorival Júnior to return to command the club. The coach and the São Paulo tricolor closed the agreement this Friday morning, the 15th, after a meeting.

The information was released by ge and confirmed by Estadão. In tricolor, the Dorival’s salary will be close to R$2 million per month – below what he earned at Corinthians (R$3 million), but above Hernán Crespo’s salary (R$1.5 million).

Dorival returns to São Paulo after just over two years. In 2024 he left the club after winning the Copa do Brasil the previous year to go and command the Brazilian team.

At CBF, he had a bad job and ended up being fired just over a year later, after being run over by Argentina in the World Cup qualifiers. Last year, Dorival took over Corinthians and also won the 2025 Copa do Brasil and won the Super Cup this year against Flamengo.

The cups did not sustain him in command of Timão, which started badly in the Brasileirão, and Dorival was fired on April 5, 2026.

In São Paulo, Dorival seeks to give a consistency for a club that is going through turbulent times on and off the field. In recent months, the political war in Morumbi has taken place behind the scenes.

The impeachment of Julio Casares last year and Harry Massis at war with Olten Ayres, president of the Deliberative Council, as well as managers being targets of police investigations torment fans daily.

On the field, the Fans were furious with Hernán Crespo’s dismissal in March at a time when the team was leading the Brasileirão. Roger Machado, brought in by the trust of Rui Costa, football director, and Rafinha, technical coordinator, did not perform.

Roger caused the team’s performance to plummet, he was booed and fired after the embarrassing elimination in the Copa do Brasil, last Wednesday, against Juventude, who are in Series B.
