Drunk driver kills two children in São Paulo

64-year-old man ran over 4 children on the sidewalk on Friday (April 3); driver was arrested for murder and bodily harm

Demóstenes Dias de Macedo, aged 64, ran over and killed two children in Diadema, in Greater São Paulo. The collision occurred on Friday afternoon (April 3, 2026), when the drunk driver lost control of the car and mounted the sidewalk. Security cameras recorded the collision.

The vehicle hit 4 children. Izaias, aged 5, and Sophya, aged 10, died at the scene. Two other children were injured and taken to area hospitals. Demosthenes was arrested for intentional homicide and bodily harm. The information is from G1.

The driver told the Civil Police that he had been drinking because he was emotionally shaken by the end of a relationship.

The children will be watched over in Diadema until 8am on Sunday (April 5). The burial will be in Alagoas, where the bodies will be transferred.
