In Christian churches, even on Easter Monday, which also bears the name Monday in the Easter Octave, services are held to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This day is also called Lamb Monday in memory of what happened on the first day after the Sabbath.
Because then the angel gave courage to the women who ran to the tomb at dawn and were terrified and worried when they found it empty. “Don’t be afraid,” he told them. “He has risen from the dead. He is not here. But go and tell the disciples.” he added.
The last day of the Easter holidays is known in Slovakia and in the surrounding countries for šibačka, the pouring of water on girls and women, by handing out painted or chocolate eggs or bunnies. However, they are folk customs, not church customs. But there is symbolism – Easter associated with washing with water – the feast of baptism.
In the Greek Catholic Church, Holy Monday is a holy day. There are holy liturgies, processions around the temple.
Easter is followed in the Catholic Church by the eight-day octave of Christ’s Resurrection, which ends with Divine Mercy Sunday. It is the first Sunday after Easter. The Easter period – the period of the Easter celebration – lasts 50 days. It begins on Holy (White) Saturday evening and ends on the Feast of the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit (Pentecost).
Even in the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg confession, the 2nd Easter celebration (Easter Monday) is a day of joy from the Lord’s resurrection. After Easter, there are five more Sundays that belong to the Easter period of the church year.
