One attacker killed and two wounded in a shooting outside the Israeli consulate in Istanbul

One attacker has died and two have been wounded during a shootout in front of the building that houses the Israeli consulate in Istanbul, according to the Turkish Government, while the media also reports that two police officers were injured.

“There were three attackers. One has died and two have been injured and detained,” said the governor of Istanbul, Davut Gül, who noted that they were armed with long weapons. The governor also confirmed that two police officers have been injured.

The event took place shortly before 12:40 (09:40 GMT) in front of the building where the diplomatic office is located, which has hardly been active for more than two years due to poor Turkish-Israeli relations.

Shooting against security guards and police

According to initial information, three armed attackers tried to enter the building and started a shootout when security guards and police at the entrance of the building stopped them. The Turkish Government has opened a judicial investigation to clarify the reasons for the attack.
