The chief of staff of the Argentine presidency, Manuel Adorni, left office this Saturday, 27th, after months of judicial investigation for alleged illicit enrichment.
In a letter published on social media and addressed to Argentine president, Javier Milei, Adorni stated that he has been suffering from “endless media attacks” and denied irregularities. The resignation had already been announced last week.
The federal court analyzed trips abroad, real estate acquisitions and property renovations in Adorni’s name to verify whether there was compatibility with the declared income. The former minister became more exposed after acknowledging that he omitted around US$500,000 in his sworn statements. According to him, the amount would originate from an investment in bitcoin: Adorni claimed to have invested US$200,000 and obtained another US$300,000 in gains between 2014 and 2018.
The government has not yet announced a replacement. The Argentine press mentions the Minister of the Interior, Diego Santilli, as a possible name for the position.
