The Brazilian Government identified more than 2,000 workers in conditions similar to slavery and included 169 new employers who subjected people to this situation, according to official data released.
The document updated on Monday by known as the “dirty list” of slave labor, published every six months, mostly includes domestic services, construction and agribusiness companies.
With the update from the Brazilian Government, the “dirty list” includes 613 companies and individuals who subjected a total of 2,247 workers to conditions similar to slavery.
Employers remain on the register for two years, but may have their names removed before that period if they sign a regularization agreement with the MTE and comply with other requirements from the authorities.
The registry update also excluded 225 employers who had completed two years of being on the “dirty list”.
Among the new names included in the register are singer Amado Batista – icon of the Brazilian cheesy-romantic genre – and also the Chinese car manufacturer of electric cars BYD.
In the case of the Chinese giant, according to the Brazilian press, the Government of Brazil fined BYD in 2025 for subjecting 163 Chinese workers to conditions similar to slavery, after an investigation revealed that more than 400 workers were taken to Brazil irregularly to work on the factory’s construction sites, in the state of Bahia.
In relation to the singer Amado Batista, the inspection of the MTE identified that 14 workers were subjected to degrading conditions on their farm.
BYD did not want to comment, while Amado Batista’s press office assured that it was taking “all administrative measures to close” the fines.
Even so, they indicated that the information that the 14 workers were rescued was “completely false and untrue”.
