Fire hits roof of Velodrome in Olympic Park

Fire Department operates with 60 soldiers and more than 20 vehicles; there is no record of victims so far

A fire broke out on the roof of the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Park Velodromein Barra Olímpica, in the Southwest Zone of the city, in the early hours of this Wednesday (8).

O Military Fire Department of the State of Rio de Janeiro (CBMERJ) was called to control the flames on the premises, located on Avenida Embaixador Abelardo Bueno.

Around 60 firefighters, from six units, work in the operation, with the support of more than 20 vehicles and specialized teams.

Until now, there is no record of victims. Teams continue working to fight the fire and control the situation, with no end date in sight. New information will be released as soon as it becomes available.

The velodrome is a sports facility designed specifically for track cycling competitions. The structure has an oval shape, with inclined curves that allow cyclists to maintain high speeds safely.
