The priest from the Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe Parish, in Florianópolis, Brazil, ended up winning the first prize in a draw organized by the church itself on Easter Sunday, a Fiat Argo car, in a moment that quickly went viral on social media.
During the draw, held in front of the faithful, the tickets were thrown into the air and Father Eduardo Senna ended up withdrawing one of them. “You won’t believe it. It’s blank, it’s mine!”, he said, amid laughter from the congregation.

Despite the relaxed atmosphere at the time, the situation sparked controversy online. Several internet users criticized the fact that the parish priest himself took part in the initiative, arguing that whoever organizes it should not enter the draw. Others, however, came to his defense, ensuring that everything took place transparently.
In light of the controversy, the priest came forward to clarify the situation and announced that the draw will be repeated on Thursday, April 9, this time without including the tickets he had purchased. He further explained that the objective of the initiative, called “Ação Entre Amigos”, was to raise funds for works in various communities in the parish, and that the car would not remain for him, but for the church itself.
According to information provided by the Brazilian press, the remaining prizes, such as a television, an air fryer, a laptop and a bicycle, have already been awarded to the respective winners, with only the draw for the car being repeated.
