Os North Americans will be able to watch an unprecedented fight as they prepare for celebrate the country’s 250 years of independence: a “cage match” between the children of a sitting US president and the son of a former president.
The unlikely possibility arose this Thursday (10), when Hunter Biden, son of former Democratic President Joe Bidenchallenged the Republican president’s eldest children Donald Trump — Donald Jr. and Eric — for a fight.
Biden said he received a call from conservative social media commentator Andrew Callaghan, who told him he was organizing the fight.
“I told him I would do it — 100% participation if he makes it. And if he doesn’t make it, I’m still going,” he said in a video shared on Callaghan’s Channel 5 Instagram.
A Trump Organization and the White Housedid not immediately respond to requests for comment.
It’s unclear if or when this fight will take place.. The White House plans to hold a similar event — but with real UFC fighters — on June 14, as part of a series of events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Biden became president after defeating Trump in the 2020 election, which the Republican continues to falsely claim which was the result of widespread fraud.
The threat of confrontation between their children has echoes of a proposed 2023 cage fight between tech titans Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk, although that event never took place.
In earlier eras of American politics, there were bloody struggles, notably the 1804 duel between Vice President Aaron Burr and former Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, which resulted in the former Treasury Secretary’s death and effectively ended Burr’s political career.
