Do you have a mobile banking application? The Ministry of the Interior warns against a fatal mistake made by millions of Slovaks!

Personal data in cyberspace must be protected. They can become a target of fraudsters. Basic rules include the use of strong passwords or multi-factor authentication. The Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic drew attention to this on the social network.

“Use strong passwords. Twelve or more characters, mix upper and lower case letters, special characters and numbers. Avoid names of loved ones or your pets, dates of birth. Do not use the same password for multiple accounts. Don’t remember your passwords? Use a keyring (wallet) that securely stores passwords and only you can access it,” the department advised.

It is also important not to click on suspicious links or open emails from unknown senders and to update your software. “Outdated software is a gateway for hackers. Make sure your devices and apps have the latest updates,” the ministry warned. Device protection with an antivirus program will also help. Attention should be paid to open and unsecured Wi-Fi networks. They can become a gateway for hackers.

According to the department, there is no need to forget the control over social networks either. In addition to thinking about what the user will publish, it is also necessary to set the visibility of the content for unknown people. “Use parental controls to protect children. But the most important thing is mutual trust and regular communication with children about the pitfalls of the Internet,” warned the department.
