US Vice President JD Vance has announced the closure of an intense 21-hour round of negotiations with Iran held in Pakistan, which ended without an agreement and with the presentation of what Washington describes as its “final offer.” Among the points of disagreement, the United States has criticized that Iran has not made a “firm commitment” to renounce seeking a nuclear weapon. For its part, Iran accuses the US of “excessive demands” in the talks. An Iranian source close to the negotiations has assured that Iran will not reopen traffic in the Strait of Hormuz unless the United States accepts a “reasonable agreement.” The Government of Pakistan, the country that has hosted the dialogue table, has urged both parties to preserve the commitment to the two-week ceasefire reached last Wednesday, as well as to move towards a lasting solution that ends the hostilities unleashed by the offensive launched by surprise on February 28 by Israeli and US forces against Tehran.
