Trump seeks an end to the war, Netanyahu does not


It would have been a surprise if the first round of US-Iranian negotiations had resulted in an agreement. The positions are too far apart and the willingness on both sides to forego central demands is too low. Iran does not want to simply give up its enriched uranium and does not want to open the Strait of Hormuz, its strongest means of pressure, without massive concessions. The USA, in turn, does not want to give Tehran billions in money that would flow into military build-up.
