The Minister of Finance, Dario Durigan, starts an international agenda on Monday (13) which includes commitments in the United States, Spain and Germany. The trip, which continues until the 20th, marks the the minister’s first series of meetings abroad since taking officereplacing Fernando Haddad, who left the government.
The mission aims to reinforce Brazil’s position in global debates, focusing on topics such as international tax reform, energy transition and strengthening multilateral institutions.
The itinerary begins in Washington, with the spring meetings (in the Northern Hemisphere) of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. From Saturday (19), the minister accompanies President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s delegation in Europe, including Spain and Germany, with commitments aimed at defending democracy, industrial policy and international cooperation.
The meetings scheduled on the minister’s agenda bring together economic authorities from different countries. Among them are IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva; French Economy Minister Roland Lescure; Chinese Finance Minister Lan Fo’an; World Bank President Ajay Banga; and German Finance Minister Lars Klingbeil
The trip takes place amid an international scenario marked by geopolitical tensions and debates on sustainable growth, with Brazil seeking to increase its role in issues such as climate and tax justice.
