Datafolha: 59% support Bolsonaro’s house arrest

Bolsonaro has been under house arrest since March 27, when Federal Supreme Court (STF) minister Alexandre de Moraes authorized him to return home temporarily, for 90 days.

Datafolha research released this Sunday, 12, points out that 59% of Brazilians advocate that former President of the Republic Jair Bolsonaro (PL) serve his sentence at home instead of returning to prison in Papudinha. Those who say that Bolsonaro should return to the closed regime total 37%, while 5% were unable to answer.

After this period, Moraes may extend the benefit or order the former president to return to Papudinha.

Bolsonaro was sentenced last year to 27 years and 3 months in prison for an attempted coup d’état.

The total number of people who say that Bolsonaro should stay at home is 61% among those over 60 years old and reaches 81% among business people.

Those who argue that the former president serving time in prison accounts for 44% among young people aged 16 to 24 and 42% among unemployed people.

Among people who classify themselves as centrist, 53% are in favor of domicile and 41% for a return to Papudinha.

Among the most Bolsonaro supporters, 94% defend house arrest and 3% do not.

Among the most PT members, 28% prefer the former president at home and 68% want him to return from prison.

Among those who intend to vote for the President of the Republic Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), 30% support house arrest and 66% want to return to prison.

Of the declared voters of Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), 93% are in favor of the former president serving his sentence at home and only 5% say he should return to Papudinha.

Datafolha interviewed 2,004 people in 137 cities in Brazil between April 7 and 9. The survey was registered with the Electoral Court under number BR-03770/2026. The margin of error is two percentage points, plus or minus.
