The president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, said in an interview with Jovem Pan, this Monday (13), that the National Congress needs to “go back to debating public policies” and that it is “disappointed with the quality of the Brazilian Congress”.

Even though the PSD is one of the largest parties present in the National Congress, with 49 deputies and 13 senators, Kassab stated that he has “no constraints” in saying that parliamentarians stopped discussing topics that benefit the population. “Congress is not in line with society’s agenda. I have no embarrassment”, stated the PSD president.

“This is an excrescence, R$60 billion every year. With amendments that, for the most part, have no connection with investment in infrastructure, which is the role of the federal budget”, he added.

The president concluded by saying that there are almost no other topics to be discussed in Congress other than “parliamentary amendments and appointments of members of regulatory agencies. I say this here live or anywhere else”, added Kassab.

For the 2026 Budget, deputies and senators presented 7,453 amendments to the Budget Bill (PLN 15/2025), representing R$61 billion allocated to parliamentary amendments.
