The president of the CPI on Organized Crime, senator Fabiano Contarato (PT-ES), decided to postpone this Tuesday (14) the session aimed at reading the collegiate’s final opinion. Initially, the commission’s rapporteur, Alessandro Vieira (MDB-SE), would read its opinion in a session scheduled for 9 am. With the postponement, the process will begin at 2 pm.
“The expectation is that we can make the presentation. We have now received the news that President Fabiano Contarato has postponed it until the afternoon […] I didn’t speak to him, but I imagine it was due to the reading deadline. I don’t see any harm to the final result,” Vieira told journalists in the Senate.
The rapporteur’s opinion was released in the early hours of this Tuesday. Vieira proposed indicting, for crimes of responsibility, the ministers of the STF (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes, Toffoli Days e Gilmar Mendesin addition to the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet.
“The indictment focused on the crime of responsibility. This is a technical choice. The crime of responsibility can only be prosecuted, investigated and judged by the Senate itself. and requires a less robust set of evidence than is required for common crimes”, said the rapporteur.
According to him, the creation of the report had “no ideological or partisan character” and is based on a technical analysis. “It is simply the realization that in a Republic no one can be above the law.”
Asked about having the votes to approve the opinion, the senator stated that only the CPI plenary will be able to say. Installed in November, the commission will hold its last meeting this Tuesday. The collegiate’s request for an extension was denied by the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP).
Regarding Banco Master’s financial fraud, Vieira reaffirmed the defense for a CPI of its own to investigate the case. “A specific investigation is necessary in relation to the master case due to its deep infiltration of public authorities”, he declared.
