The bus crashed into a ravine: 14 people died in the accident and dozens of others were injured

“At this moment, the death toll on the Cuenca-Molleturo highway has risen to 14 and the number of injured is 29,” said Ecuador’s ECU911 rescue service at Platform X late Wednesday; initial data spoke of 11 victims.

“Coordinated agency workers are on the scene looking for other people who may have lost their lives,” they supplied without specifying the number of passengers.

Last year in Ecuador more than 2,000 people have died in traffic accidents, and traffic accidents are among the leading causes of death there. A record 2,373 deaths were recorded in 2023, official figures show.
