Lula makes video in defense of Pope Leo after Trump attack – 04/15/2026 – Brasília Hoje

The president (PT) recorded a speech for the CNBB (National Conference of Brazilian Bishops), in which he took the opportunity to come out in defense after the attacks made by Donald Trump.

After being called “”, the leader hit back at the American president on Monday morning (13). “I’m not afraid of the Trump administration. I will continue to speak out loud about the Gospel message,” he told reporters during a flight.

“I would like, first of all, to express my deepest solidarity with Pope Leo 14. Throughout the history of humanity, defenders of peace and the oppressed have been attacked by the powerful who consider themselves to be deities to be worshiped by mere mortals”, says Lula in the video.

The video was recorded on Tuesday (14), on the occasion of the 62nd General Assembly organized by the group. The demonstration was made after a request from the community through minister Guilherme Boulos (General Secretariat).

“The same story has shown that a heart full of love for others is worth more than the power of weapons and money”, says the president. “That said, I want to give a special greeting to the CNBB, on the occasion of its sixty-second general assembly. And reaffirm my respect and admiration for an institution that, in the most painful moments of our recent history, was on the front line in defense of democracy.”

The CNBB event marked 200 years of relationship between Brazil and the Holy See.

CNBB representatives have already been received by Lula at the Palácio do Planalto on more than one occasion. The president’s video was addressed to the group and broadcast on the Conference’s networks, but was not published on Lula’s official networks until the publication of this text.
