The Italian Court issued a new decision in favor of the extradition of former deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), this time in the process in which she was convicted at the Federal Supreme Court (STF) for illegal possession of a firearm. There is still an appeal.
Previously, the Italian Court had already authorized the transfer of the former parliamentarian to Brazil in the case related to the invasion of the National Justice Council (CNJ) systems.
The former deputy’s defense appealed the authorization granted in the first case and is still awaiting analysis of the appeal by the Court of Cassation, the highest instance for analyzing the process. To Estadão, lawyer Fábio Pagnozzi assessed the decision on extradition as “meaningless”.
After the legal proceedings have been exhausted, the Italian government will make the final decision on extradition. The final word belongs to the Italian Ministry of Justice.
Even if one of the extradition requests is rejected, validation of one of the cases is enough for sending to Brazil to be authorized.
Convictions in the STF
Former deputy Carla Zambelli was sentenced by the STF to ten years in prison for invading CNJ systems and ideological falsehood, as was hacker Walter Delgatti Neto. He claimed to have been hired by her to access the CNJ system and insert a false arrest warrant against Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

After this conviction, Zambelli left Brazil and was arrested in Italy, in a joint operation between the Federal Police and local authorities.
She was also sentenced to five years and three months in prison in another case, for illegal possession of a firearm and illegal restraint using a firearm. The case concerns the occasion in which she chased, armed, a man after a political discussion in São Paulo.
