Minister points out rise in measles in the USA: ‘whoever goes to the World Cup has to get vaccinated’

Target of visa restrictions by the United States since last year, when Donald Trump’s government tried to intervene in the trial of former president Jair Bolsonaro for an attempted coup d’état and punished Brazilian authorities, the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, issued this Friday, the 17th, a warning about the increase in measles cases in American territory.

In an interview with Eldorado Radiohe said he was not monitoring the status of his visa and highlighted that “the plan backfired” when he mentioned that Brazilian partnerships with American companies in the sector are still ongoing.

In a critical tone regarding the American isolation, Padilha emphasized that the increase in measles cases is worrying as the World Cup approaches, which will be played in the United States, Mexico and Canada. “Whoever goes to the World Cup has to be alert and vaccinated against measles,” he said.

Queues for surgeries

In the interview, Padilha also spoke about reducing queues for surgeries, exams and consultations, but claimed that the existence of a unified panel for monitoring waiting times across the country depends on information from states and municipalities to be consolidated this year and allow planning actions. In relation to elective surgeries, he highlighted that 14.9 million procedures were performed, an increase of 42% in 2022.
