American Airlines has denied involvement or interest in discussions surrounding a merger with United Airlines. In a statement released on Friday, the 17th, the airline assessed that the merger would be negative for competition and consumers.
“While changes in the broader airline market may be necessary, a combination with United would be negative for competition and consumers and therefore inconsistent with our understanding of management’s philosophy regarding the industry and the principles of antitrust law,” American Airlines said in a statement.
The airline reiterated that the execution of strategic objectives and long-term positioning remain the company’s main focuses.
