Brazil, Spain and Mexico announced this Saturday (18) that they will intensify humanitarian aid to Cuba and defended respect for the sovereignty of the Caribbean country. The position is contained in a joint statement released after a meeting in Barcelona, within the scope of the Democracy Always Forum, which brought together leaders to discuss the international situation.
The statement proposes a dialogue aligned with the principles of the United Nations Charter and highlights that the solution must create conditions for the Cuban people themselves to choose their future in freedom.
The text does not directly quote the President of the United States, Donald Trump. Still, the position comes after recent statements by Trump, who, when praising American operations in other countries, said that “Cuba is next”.

Energy crisis
The deterioration of conditions in Cuba has gained momentum in recent weeks, with fuel shortages and frequent blackouts affecting essential services such as hospitals. The situation worsened after the cut in oil supplies imposed by Washington in January, with the aim of pressuring Havana to negotiate.
At the end of March, there was a timely release for the arrival of a Russian ship with fuel, but the measure did not reverse the shortage scenario.
In addition to pressure on energy supplies, Cuban authorities accuse the United States of seeking to end medical cooperation agreements that help sustain the local economy.
