Witnesses captured the escape of the policemen

A witness to the incident published a video on the Internet in which two police officers stand by the boy, but after hearing the first shots, they run away, leaving the boy in place. The young man managed to escape, but another man nearby was hit shortly afterwards.

The shooting took place in the Ukrainian capital on Saturday, as a result of which six people were killed and more than 12 others were injured. Police shot dead the attacker after he barricaded himself in a supermarket and took several people hostage. Authorities have described the attack as an act of terrorism and the investigation is ongoing.

Perpetrator’s identity and weapon

It remains unclear if the attack was politically motivated or if there is a connection to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The fifty-eight-year-old shooter was born in Moscow, but he has had Ukrainian citizenship for a long time. The Ministry of the Interior said that the perpetrator fired from a light short rifle – a carbine, which he owned legally.
