More than 66% of respondents say that the Government is doing worse than expected and 48.4% think that Montenegro’s second legislature is being worse than the first.
Two thirds of Portuguese people are dissatisfied with the current executive led by Luís Montenegro, according to an Intercampus barometer for , CMTV and Business.
The survey reveals that 66.6% of respondents consider that the Government fell short of expectations created after the victory of the Democratic Alliance (AD) in the legislative elections in May last year.
In contrast, only 22.2% of participants say that the executive exceeded what they expected. The negative assessment also extends to the comparison with the first Government led by Montenegro: 48.4% consider the current situation to be worsewhile 32.1% identify improvements.
Comparison with the previous political cycle also does not favor the current executive. Half of respondents (50.8%) say prefer the socialist government of António Costa. Still, 40% like Montenegro’s government more than Costa’s.
There are some key areas that can explain voters’ discontent with the Government, such as the ineffectiveness in stopping the increase in housing prices and the controversy labor reform proposalwhich even motivated the first general strike in Portugal since the days of the troika. Also the health sector continues to face difficulties, without significant improvements highlighted by citizens.
The Executive’s actions in crisis situations, such as fires and recent storms, have also been the target of public protest, contributing to political wear and tear.
