The chronicle of the massacre
According to Shreveport Police Chief Wayne Smith, the gunman opened fire in three different locations, spreading death. In total, 10 people were shot, with the eight children dying.
“This is an extensive crime scene, unlike anything most of us have ever seen,” Smith said, describing the horrors police witnessed.
Pursuit and death of the perpetrator
After the bloodbath, the suspect attempted to escape. According to police spokesman Christopher Bordelon, the gunman, who was an adult, stole a car near the intersection of West 79th and Lynnwood streets to get away from authorities.
A wild chase ensued, during which the police opened fire on the vehicle, as a result of which the assailant fell dead. Authorities believe the man acted alone.
Motives and kinship with victims
Although the exact cause of the attack remains under investigation, initial reports indicate that the motive was a domestic dispute. The police chief confirmed that some of the children killed were descendants of the attacker.
The authorities continue to collect evidence from the three points of the attacks, while the local community remains in mourning for the unjust loss of the minor victims.
