Lula says Brazil ‘is tired of being small’ and wants to lead the energy transition

At the opening of the largest industrial fair in the world, in Hanover, Germany, the president defended the country’s global leadership in clean energy

President Lula (PT) stated this Monday (20) that Brazil “I’m tired of being small” and is able to take global leadership in the energy transition. The statement was made in Germany, during the opening of the Brazilian pavilion in Hannover Industrial Fair (Hannover Messe 2026), the biggest innovation event e industrial technology in the world.

In his speech to Brazilian and German authorities and businesspeople, the PT member defended a new position of the country in the international economic scenario and said that Brazil is ready to compete globally.

“Brazil is a country that wants to transform itself into a rich economy. We are tired of being treated like a poor country and a small country”, he stated.

The president highlighted the technological capacity e industrial of the country, citing companies such as Petrobras ea Embraer as examples of international competitiveness. According to him, Brazil can share technology with Europe and South America and also expand partnerships with African countries.

Lula also reinforced the strategy of positioning the country as leader in the green economy. He stated that Brazil has the conditions to become a power in the supply of renewable fuels. “We are not saying little,” he said.

According to the president, approximately 90% of the Brazilian electrical matrix is ​​renewablewhich puts the country at an advantage compared to industrialized economies. He further highlighted the use of biofuelssuch as the mixture of ethanol in gasoline and biodiesel in diesel, and proposed an international comparison of fuel emissions, especially in cargo transport.

“We are going to make a comparison between Brazilian fuels and fuels from Germany or any other country, to see which emits less CO₂”, he stated.

After the ceremony, Lula visited Brazilian company stands and accompanied the presentation of vehicles powered by biofuelincluding trucks fueled with biodiesel.

The president stated that Brazilian participation in the event goes beyond product exhibitions and seeks to expand technological cooperation with Germany. According to him, the objective is learn from the global industry and, at the same time, show the national capacity for innovation.

Lula also defended the deepening bilateral relationshighlighting investment opportunities, scientific exchange and joint development of sustainable production chains.

At the end of his speech, the president said that Brazil is seeking a new role on the international stage, with economic protagonism and environmental commitment. “After Brazil’s participation in this fair, the relationship between Germany and Brazil will never be the same again”, he stated.

Brazil is once again official partner of the fair after 46 years. The 2026 edition brings together more than 300 Brazilian companiesincluding startups and exhibitors spread across six pavilions.
