“It is necessary to recognize that the advance of the extreme right has not eliminated the existence of liberal sectors committed, albeit in a limited way, to constitutional legality and democratic stability”, states the document, which is the result of a commission coordinated by the former minister.
According to the text, “the distinction between authoritarian extreme right and liberal right is decisive for political tactics, even if it does not eliminate structural divergences around the development model, income distribution and the role of the State.”
Although it does not mention it by name, the party refers to Bolsonarism when mentioning the extreme right, and to sectors of the center when talking about liberals. The reasoning behind the so-called “broad front”, which the candidacy built in the 2022 election and wants to resume, at least in part, this year.
“Sectors of the liberal and democratic right can, in certain contexts, share convergences in defense of constitutional legality and national sovereignty – without this implying programmatic dilution or strategic subordination of the democratic-popular project”, continues the text.
