One case of the acute infectious disease mumps was reported in the Bratislava region this year until April 17. The Regional Office of Public Health (RÚVZ) Bratislava does not yet register cases of measles or rubella. He informed about it on the social network. He appealed to the importance of the MMR vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella.
Last year, three cases of mumps were reported to the office in the Bratislava region. He also recorded three cases of the highly contagious measles disease. The office did not register the predominantly mild disease of rosacea, nor did it record any suspicion of this disease.
He also mentioned vaccination statistics in the Bratislava region. “According to the results of the vaccination check, the county-wide vaccination of the child population in the year of birth 2023 reached a value of 94 percent, and in the year of birth 2022, the vaccination represented a value of 94.1 percent. As part of revaccination in the fifth year of birth (year 2013), an 81 percent vaccination rate was found, and in the 2012 year of birth, the vaccination rate was 91.1 percent,” the office explained.
The first dose of the MMR vaccine against measles, mumps and rubella is currently given no earlier than the first day of the 15th month of life and no later than the 18th month of the child’s life. Vaccination with the second dose of the vaccine is carried out in the fifth year of life. The vaccine is key to maintaining collective immunity, which protects not only the vaccinated child, but also his surroundings.
