British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stakes his political future this week when he appears before the UK Parliament on Monday to explain how former minister Peter Mandelson was appointed ambassador to the United States despite failing an exhaustive security background check.
Mandelson, nicknamed the “Prince of Darkness,” has always been a controversial figure for his ability to maneuver, scheme and influence Labor, as well as his ties to convicted American pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The Starmer Government dismissed Mandelson as head of the diplomatic mission in Washington in September 2025 after it came to light that he had provided Epstein with sensitive documents from the British Government when he was head of the Company in 2010, something for which the London Metropolitan Police (Met, in English) is investigating him, reports Efe.
