He Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katzhas recognized that the murder of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in July in Tehran, was work of the Hebrew Stateand threatened to “decapitate” the leadership of Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
Iran y Hamas attributed to Israel the assassination of Haniyeh on July 31 in the Iranian capital, although Israelat war with the Palestinian movement in the Gaza Strip since October 2023, did not comment on the matter.
“We will hit the Houthis hard, attack their strategic infrastructure and decapitate their leadership, just as we did with Haniyeh, (Yahya) Sinwar and (Hasan) Nasrallah in Tehran, Gaza and Lebanon,” he declared. Katz. “Anyone who raises a hand against Israel will have his hand cut off, and the long arm of the Israel Defense Forces will strike him and hold him accountable,” Katz added, according to a statement issued by his ministry. It is the first public acknowledgment that Israel was behind Haniyeh’s assassination in July in Tehran.
Iran response
The leader of Lebanese Hezbollah movement, Hasan Nasrallahwho opened a front against Israel in October 2023 in solidarity with the Palestinians, was killed on September 27 in Beirut.
In response to the deaths of Haniyeh and Nasrallah, Iran fired 200 missiles in early October at Israel, which in turn attacked Iranian military facilities.
Yahya Sinwar, who replaced Haniyeh at the head of the Palestinian movement, was killed by Israeli soldiers on October 16 in the southern Gaza Strip.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahuhas also mentioned the Houthis, claiming to have asked the Israeli forces “to destroy the infrastructure of these rebels, who claimed responsibility early Saturday for the firing of a ballistic missile that left 16 slightly injured in Tel Aviv.
