France: This is the new Bairroux government

President Emmanuel Macron will convene his government on January 3 at the Elysee for a first cabinet meeting, the presidency announced.

The centrist leader today formed a government marked by the return of former prime ministers Elisabeth Borne and Manuel Valls, respectively, to the education ministry and the responsible ministry for overseas territories, as well as former interior minister Géral Darmanen to the justice ministry.

Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barot and Armed Forces Minister Sébastien Lecorny have been reappointed to their respective posts in the new French government of centrist Prime Minister Francois Bairroux, the French presidency announced today.

The centrist Jean-Noel Barot was already head of diplomacy in the previous government, while Macron’s close associate Sébastien Lecorny is armed forces minister from 2022.

The director of the French public financial institution Fund of Deposits and Loans, Eric Lobar, has been appointed Minister of Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Dominance.

He will be supported by Macron’s close aide, Amelie de Monsalen, in charge of public finances, as France faces one of the worst fiscal crises in its recent history.

Among the other economic portfolios, Anne Geneva (LR, right) holds the Ministry of Agriculture.
