O Brighton scored 3-0 over the Chelsea this Tuesday (21), at The American Express Community Stadium, in a match valid for the 34th round of the Premier League.
With goals from Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck, Brighton showed superiority from start to finish and won three important points in the competition.
The score was opened after just 4 minutes of the game, when Ferdi Kadioglu took advantage of a corner kick from the left to finish first, with no chance for goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.
Dominant in the first half, Brighton had more possession and shots, while having difficulty building offensive plays.
After half-time, coach Liam Rosenior tried to change the game’s outlook by bringing in Alejandro Garnacho in place of Wesley Fofana, but the change had no effect.
The hosts’ second goal came 10 minutes into the final half, with Jack Hinshelwood finishing low after a precise pass from Georginio Rutter.
To complete the performance, Danny Welbeck, who had entered in the 37th minute of the second half, scored the third goal in the 45th minute, after Maxim De Cuyper’s low cross from the left.
The numbers reflect Brighton’s superiority, which finished 14 times compared to just 5 for Chelsea, with 8 shots on target against none of the visitors.
The team led by Fabian Hurzeler also dominated possession and created more clear scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes.
With the result, Brighton reached 50 points and surpassed itself in the table, taking sixth place.
The Blues, in turn, fell to seventh place with 48 points and saw their chances of qualifying for next season’s European competitions decrease.
The victory keeps Brighton’s dream of competing in continental competitions alive, while Chelsea will need to recover quickly to avoid compromising their goals for the season.
