United States President Donald Trump announced the extension of the ceasefire until a proposal is presented by Iranian authorities and discussions are concluded.
In a statement published on his social network, Truth Social, the American president said he ordered the Armed Forces to “continue the blockade and, in all other aspects, remain ready and able”. Trump has used the blockade of Iranian ports as a way to pressure the country for a deal.
According to the president, the request for a ceasefire was made by Marshal Asim Munir and the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif. He further stated that the Iranian government would be “seriously fragmented” and the suspension of the attacks would give time for leaders and representatives to present a unified proposal.
“I will extend the ceasefire until your proposal is presented and discussions are concluded, one way or another,” Trump said in the post.
Earlier, Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar called on the United States and Iran to urgently engage to extend the ceasefire period.
