Its Ministry of Defense confirmed today that it has received the new package of German military aid. It includes 15 Leopard 1A5 tanks, two Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, a Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled gun, two Iris-T air defense systems and two Patriot missile launchers.
Air defense systems are extremely important to the Ukrainian armed forces, which have faced a barrage of Russian missile and drone attacks in recent weeks.
The German government clarified that the delivery of the Iris-T systems was pending from 2023.
Berlin has delivered to Kiev another 65,000 missiles for the Gepard tanks, as well as missiles for the Iris-T air defense systems. Additionally, it has fielded AIM-9L/I Sidewinder air-to-air missiles.
In addition to heavy weapons, the new German military aid package also includes trucks, drones, radars and ammunition.
The estimated value of the military aid that Berlin has provided to date is around 28 billion euros. Germany is the second largest supplier of military equipment to Ukraine, after the US.
