Aircraft rented by Prosegur transported money from Ciudad del Este to Asunción; pilot died and 3 were injured
A plane rented by the security company Prosegur crashed in Minga Guazú, Paraguay, on Saturday (April 18, 2026), with around US$5 million and approximately R$15 million on board. Residents of the region went to the wreckage and looted around US$2 million, according to police.
Em , a (National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics of Paraguay) reported that 4 people were on the flight, which left Ciudad del Este bound for Asunción. The pilot died and the other 3 victims were taken to hospitals.
Commissioner Carlos Duré, head of the tripartite command of the CCPI (Department of International Police Cooperation), told the newspaper that, 15 minutes after the crash, “many people approached the place and appropriated the money“.
According to Prosegur, around US$2 million disappeared. The commissioner said that, as it is cash, tracking it is complex.
Duré warned about the risk of criminal groups visiting homes in the region to demand the return of money, using fake police uniforms. At least 1 such case has been reported, the commissioner said.
According to the ABC Coloranother Prosegur plane that was also carrying money arrived at Luque airport without problems.

“The National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (Dinac) informs the public that, this afternoon [sábado]an air accident involving an aircraft occurred near Guaraní International Airport, in the city of Minga Guazú, department of Alto Paraná.
“The Cessna model 402B aircraft, registered with the registration number ZP-BEE in the name of the company Aerotax SA, was operating in the service of Prosegur SA
“The twin-engine aircraft carried four (4) people, two (2) crew and two (2) passengers (employees of the company Prosegur SA). We regret to inform you of the death of the pilot in command, while the other occupants were taken to medical care centers.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft suffered a left engine failure during flight, resulting in its subsequent crash.
“From the first moment, the corresponding protocols were activated, working in a coordinated manner with the emergency services and airport security, which are already mobilized to check the situation of passengers and clarify the facts.
“The institution will continue to provide timely information as new verified data becomes available.
