After third hospitalization in 1 month, mayor of BH is discharged and will spend Christmas at home

The re-elected mayor of Belo Horizonte, Fuad Noman (PSD)was discharged from hospital and will spend Christmas at home, with his family. The information was released on Monday night (23) by Mater Dei Hospital, where the politician had been admitted since the 19th.

Fuad had experienced secondary intestinal bleeding, with diarrhea and dehydration, and was admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The symptoms were a reflection of the medications that the mayor has been taking, especially anticoagulants, during his cancer treatment.

. Three weeks ago, Fuad had been hospitalized with neuropathy – a nerve dysfunction that can cause a series of symptoms, such as pain, tingling, numbness, burning, loss of sensitivity and muscle atrophy.

In July, Fuad revealed that he was undergoing treatment for blood cancer, abdominal lymphoma. During the electoral process, the mayor alternated campaign commitments with chemotherapy sessions. Abdominal lymphoma can cause swelling, pain, nausea and vomiting.

On the 18th, the mayor of Belo Horizonte was unable to attend his diploma for his second term. According to his closest allies, Fuad chose not to be at the ceremony due to a voice problem due to health treatment.

“I couldn’t be present at the ceremony, as I would have liked, but I continue to work and recover well so that we can start 2025 with a lot of energy and disposition. Let’s move forward”, wrote the mayor on social media.

Throughout the campaign, he worked on his image, grew in the polls and overtook names that came to the fore in the race, such as television presenter and state deputy Mauro Tramonte (Republicans).

In the second round, Fuad had the support of left-wing politicians, in a movement that had already started in the final stretch of the first round. Engler, who finished the October 6 vote in the lead, received endorsements from former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and governor Romeu Zema (Novo).

The re-elected mayor is 77 years old, is a writer, economist and was a career public servant at the Central Bank. He was also part of the government of former president Fernando Henrique Cardoso (PSDB), as executive secretary of the Civil House, and of Minas Gerais, as secretary of Finance and Transport.
