Automaker targets the European market by showing that vehicle can be recharged in low temperatures
A placed a car inside a freezer at -33.4º C to demonstrate that its new fast charging technology works even in extreme temperatures. The test was carried out during the 1st day of on Friday (April 24, 2026), with a BYD Bao 3 model vehicle.
The model’s charger and battery operated normally in the intense cold, taking the charge from 10% to 97% in 17 minutes. Under normal temperature conditions, the same process takes 9 minutes.
The demonstration directly targets one of the main obstacles to the adoption of electric vehicles in places where temperatures drop a lot in winter: the loss of battery performance in the cold. The Chinese company signals that the technology is a response to the demands of the European market, where the harsh winter is an obstacle to expanding sales of its electric cars.
BYD already has Tesla in sales in most of Europe and assesses that there is room for growth on the continent. At the same event, the Chinese automaker also presented new generations of 2 SUV models sold in Brazil: the Yuan Plus and the Tan line.
