Leaders from several countries expressed their condemnation of the shots fired at the annual dinner of the White House Correspondents’ Association, in Washington, on Saturday night, the 25th, and highlighted their relief at the fact that the President of the United States, Donald Trump, the First Lady, Melania Trump, and the other guests were not injured.
Pakistan’s head of government, Shehbaz Sharif, said he was “deeply shocked” by what happened and the “disturbing incident”.
The president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, stated that violence cannot be accepted by those who defend peace. “We strongly condemn the attempted attack on President Donald Trump and his wife,” he said, wishing those present safety.
In a similar tone, the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, declared that “violence must never be the way”.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he was relieved about the safety of the participants and stressed that political violence “has no place in any democracy”. The same assessment was made by the Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takaichi, who stated that acts of this type cannot be tolerated.
The Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, praised the response of American security forces, highlighting the speed in containing the incident. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned the episode and wished continued security to US authorities.

In the United States, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Trump’s political opponent, highlighted the role of security agents. She also mentioned the impact of the episode when remembering personal experiences with political violence and expressed solidarity with the injured agent and those present.
Another Democrat, California Governor Gavin Newsom, stated that violence is unacceptable and reinforced the importance of a free press for the country.
