University games end in aggression and fire in the interior of São Paulo

Clovis Roberto de Leão, aged 28, says he was attacked by three students from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie after defending his friend


The university games known as “Economíadas”, held in São Carlos, in the interior of São Paulo, ended in confusion on the 21st, with records of attacks against the event promoter and a fire caused by the use of flares inside the gym.

Each of the incidents generated a fine of R$20,000 for the Criativa agency, responsible for organizing the university party, imposed by the city hall.

Clovis Roberto de Leão, 28 years old, says he was attacked by three students from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie after defending her friend, who was allegedly offended by them.

According to another friend of the promoter and influencer, one of the students approached Clovis’s friend, causing the student to be pushed and removed from the scene by party security guards. Outside the event, he and other students again provoked the influencer.

According to the witness, Clóvis was surrounded and attacked by around four people. Mackenzie Presbyterian University said in a statement that it repudiates any act of violence and is investigating the case.

Clovis was admitted to the ICU at Santa Casa de São Carlos after suffering a seizure upon arriving home. The prosecutor was discharged on Thursday (23), however, he was hospitalized again on Saturday (25), due to an infection.

Fire principle

On Monday (20), during an Economíadas basketball match, a student from Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) threw a flare into the stands, which led other artifacts of the same type, which were in a box, to combust. The Santa Felicia gym was infested with smoke.

The place was evacuated immediately and no injuries were reported, according to São Carlos city hall.

After the chaos, Criativa was fined R$40,000 and has 10 days to present its defense.

The agency commented through a note on its Instagram. “The Economíadas organization expresses deep solidarity with our friend, promoter Clovis Roberto de Leão, as well as his family and friends, wishing him a full and speedy recovery. We reiterate our vehement repudiation of any form of violence”, said Criativa.

The Economíadas organization also reported that it launched an internal investigation to “completely clarify the facts” and remains available to collaborate with the investigations.
