The Lula government is still trying to obtain a public declaration of support from the president of , (-AP), for the appointment of a vacancy on the (Supreme Federal Court).
The Union’s attorney general will undergo a hearing this Wednesday (29). He and Alcolumbre, as revealed in the Mônica Bergamo column, but, according to reports, it was something casual, which does not replace a formal meeting between them.
This Monday (27), the Minister of Institutional Relations of the Lula (PT) government, José Guimarães (PT), once again asked the president of the Senate to receive Messias.
With the score uncertain and tight, the government base considers that a public gesture from the president of the Senate in favor of the nominee is important to ensure his approval in the House.
So far, however, Alcolumbre has not scheduled a conversation with the attorney general, who has already been received by more than 75 out of 81 senators. He needs at least 41 votes in favor and, according to government calculations, he currently has something around 45.
In last week’s brief meeting, Alcolumbre maintained a neutral position and did not commit to supporting Messias. In the opinion of some centrist senators, the Senate president’s exemption may not be enough to approve the AGU — it would be necessary for him to move in favor of the nominee.
As the Mônica Bergamo column revealed, the secret meeting was mediated by common friends and took place in Brasília.
In addition to the two, STF ministers Cristiano Zanin and Alexandre de Moraes were present, and senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSB-MG).
The occasion was informal, at the home of one of the authorities and with the presence of family members. Messias approached Alcolumbre and asked for support. The president of the Senate, however, did not commit. The conversation was brief and courteous.
According to allies of the president of the Senate, Alcolumbre told Messias only that he will follow the constitutional rite of the hearing and voting. He also said that he will ensure a peaceful environment in the House.
