Opposition says it has the votes to overturn Lula’s veto on Dosimetry

The estimate is that at least 330 deputies and 58 senators will vote for the overthrow; joint session of Congress will be on Thursday (April 30)

It is almost certain that the president’s veto (PT) to the Dosimetry PL will be overturned. Congress will analyze, on Thursday (April 30, 2026), the project that reduces the sentence for those involved in January 8th. It is the only item on the agenda for the joint session.

The opposition estimates that, in the Chamber, there will be 330 votes to overturn the veto on the project that could benefit the former president (PL), arrested for an attempted coup d’état and sentenced to 27 years in prison by the STF (Supreme Federal Court). 257 are needed.

In the Senate, the margin will be a little leaner: the projection is 58. But it is more than the 41 needed.

When it was approved in Congress, the project in the Chamber with 291 votes in favor and 148 against. In the Upper House, respectively.

The government supporters in Congress maintain the rhetoric that the veto can be maintained. Behind the scenes, they are already counting on defeat.

GOVERNMENT SEES CONTRADICTION

The PT leader in the Chamber, (SC), told the Poder360 that the government continues working to maintain the veto, even with Planalto focused on approving the from Jorge Messias to the Federal Supreme Court. In his understanding, the overthrow contradicts the Anti-Faction Law.

“The Dosimetry veto is linked to the so-called Anti-Faction Law, which both houses have just approved. The Senate and the Chamber will not want to weaken this legislation”he declared.
