In the German city of Oldenburg, a pilot died on Tuesday evening when a small plane crashed shortly after takeoffthe police announced. TASR informs about it based on the report of the DPA agency.
The plane crashed near Hatten Airport and landed in an open field. The cause of the accident was not immediately clear. The case is being investigated by the police and the German Federal Office for Aviation Accident Investigation. The plane was destroyed in the accident and a fire broke out, which the firefighters subsequently put out.
According to the police, the pilot, aged around 71, was allegedly returning to Switzerland, where he lived. The plane’s emergency parachute did not activate during the accident and its launch system was later safely detonated by federal police specialists. Approximately 50 rescuers were sent to the scene of the accident.
