A tragedy uninvestigated for thirty years: the murder of Róbert Remiáš still without a culprit, the opposition did not remain silent!

Several opposition parties commemorated the 30th anniversary of the murder of Róbert Remiáš. They pointed out that the case is still not closed and its perpetrators have not been punished. They called it a symbol of the failure of justice and called for its thorough clarification.

“It has been 30 years since the murder of Róbert Remiáš. For thirty years, his family and loved ones have been waiting for justice. And for now, we are watching the forces that are trying to bring back mafia practices,” said the opposition Progressive Slovakia.

KDH President Milan Majerský described the murder of Remiáš as a symbol of the failure of justice. “Robert was only 25 years old at the time of the murder. His killer and the person who ordered it were never convicted. Thirty years of waiting for the truth that still hasn’t come. This black spot in our history reminds us that freedom and the rule of law are not taken for granted – they are the result of the courage of those who choose not to look away, even if it means risking everything.” he wrote on the social network.

The Slovakia Movement emphasized the need for proper clarification of the case. “Until the murder of Remiáš is fairly investigated, the Slovak Republic will never be a true state of law,” said a member of the Slovak National Council Gábor Grendel (Slovakia-For the People). The vice president of the movement, Július Jakab, added that even after 30 years, the case needs to be properly investigated. “Even though it’s been 30 years, we will always fight for everything to be properly investigated,” he noted.

Remiáš was a former police officer and mediator of contact with the crown witness in the case of the kidnapping of the son of former president Michal Kováč. On April 29, 1996, he died in a car explosion in Bratislava. This event was already at that time considered a politically motivated murder and permanently marked the period of the so-called fencing.
