Alcolumbre hits the score that rejected Messias; see video – 04/30/2026 – Politics

The president of , (-AP), confirmed the result of the vote that rejected the appointment of the attorney general of the Union, to the vacancy in the (Supreme Federal Court).

“I think he’s going to lose by eight [votos]”, Alcolumbre said to senator (-BA), leader of the government in the Senate, shortly before the plenary screen displayed the result.

The president of the house made the difference in the vote, which had 42 votes for rejection against 34. Confirmation of the name chosen by President Lula (PT) depended on a simple majority of the 81 senators, that is, 41 votes.

By rejecting the name of , the Senate imposed an unprecedented defeat on the government. The last time a nomination had been buried was in the 19th century, when then president Floriano Peixoto nominated Cândido Barata Ribeiro.
