The weather is breaking records: Slovakia is waiting for another frosty night! When will the turning point come?

  • The following night will again bring frost to most of Slovakia.
  • Warmer air will begin to flow from the northwest and the frosts in the lowlands will stop.
  • The temperature dropped below zero in most of Slovakia on Thursday.

The following night also torments gardeners and fruit growers. By morning, it will freeze again in most of the territory, in some places also in the lowlands. Compared to the previous night, meteorologists expect significantly colder weather in the southeast due to the weakening of the wind. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informed about it on the social network.

“In the course of tomorrow, warmer air will begin to flow towards us from the northwest to the north, so we will get rid of the night frosts in the following days in the lowlands and warmer valley and basin locations,” outlined by experts.

SHMÚ evaluates Thursday morning as very cold. On Wednesday (April 29) in the afternoon and evening, a cold and dry flow from the north to the northeast intensified in Slovakia along the front of the pressure area centered over the North Sea. “The tide peaked in the morning hours today. The air temperature in most of the area fell below zero degrees Celsius during the night and it was freezing in places even in the lowlands,” evaluated the institute.

According to meteorologists, it was the warmest in Above and Zemplín, or at some stations on the Danube Plain. They concluded that, especially in the southeast, the higher temperature was “maintained” by the unpleasant northerly wind. “With a light wind, it would be more than five degrees Celsius colder there,” they noted. According to operational data, SHMÚ reports that even valid temperature records for this day were broken in rare cases, for example for Nitra, Lučenec – Bolíkovce or Červený Kláštor.
