According to the government leader in Congress, the president is just analyzing the best time to do this, as there is no deadline
One day after the defeat of Jorge Messias’ name for a vacancy on the Federal Supreme Court (STF), the government leader in Congress, senator Randolfe Rodrigues (PT-AP), was clear: President Lula will not give up the prerogative of making a new nomination. You are just analyzing when to do this, as there is no deadline.
“I don’t know when, but why would the President of the Republic abdicate his role? The president, obviously, will evaluate, he will see what the best moment is. But this is the role of the President of the Republic, the nomination, just as it is the role of the Federal Senate to examine the nominees for the Federal Supreme Court and approve or reject”, said the senator.
The senator added that the risk of defeat in this Wednesday’s vote (29) was already foreseen and that the proximity to the elections had an influence. According to him, the defeat of Messiah’s name did not come because of his resume, but because of electoral issues. The opposition awaits the next steps and keeps an eye on the calendar. Senator Esperidião Amin, for example, said: if it takes too long for the nomination to come, it could even be delayed after October.
“In each case, a reaction. I don’t have a manual. But I think that, depending on the date of the nomination, this can be left to be voted on after the election.”
. He received 34 votes when at least 41 were needed. Now, President Lula needs to make a new nomination and the chosen name must go through a hearing in the Constitution and Justice Commission and face the Senate Plenary.
