With less than a month left until the end of the Income Tax calculation period, 57.8% of taxpayers have not yet reported their income to the Federal Revenue Service. The deadline for submitting IR 2026 remains open until 11:59 pm on May 29th.
As of 4:57 pm this Sunday (3), the Tax Authorities had received 18,551,794 declarations, equivalent to 42.2% of the total of 44 million expected for this year.
Of the total already transferred, 70.2% of taxpayers will be entitled to a refund. Meanwhile, another 16.9% will need to pay tax and 12.8% have no amounts to pay or receive.
Completion remains concentrated on the computer program, used by 73.7% of taxpayers. Another 17.4% opted for online submission and 8.9% used the Meu Taxo de Renda application.
The pre-filled declaration was adopted by 60% of users, while the simplified discount model represents 55.3% of submissions.
Who must declare?
Taxpayers must declare that they received taxable income above R$35,584 in 2025 or obtained gross rural income above R$177,920. Anyone who received up to two minimum wages per month is exempt, unless they meet other mandatory criteria.
Even after the deadline, the taxpayer can send the late declaration to regularize their situation with the Federal Revenue.
In this case, a minimum fine of R$165.74 will be applied for delay, which may increase depending on the amount of tax due, equal to 20% of the total.
The guideline is that the taxpayer sends the declaration as soon as possible, even after the deadline, through the Brazilian Federal Revenue program.
In this case, a Darf (Federal Revenue Collection Document) is automatically generated to pay the fine after submitting the declaration.
