Meteorologists warn of a storm: The worst will be in these regions!

During Tuesday (May 5), it will be windy especially in the districts of Bratislava, Trnava, Nitra and Trenčianske regions and in the districts of Námestovo and Tvrdošín. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) has issued a first-level wind warning for these locations, valid from 10 a.m. on Tuesday.

In these districts, the occurrence of wind that reaches an average speed of around 45 kilometers per hour or short-term gusts of 65 to 70 kilometers per hour is expected. Meteorologists warn that this speed poses a potential hazard to human activities and may cause minor damage.

In the districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Dolný Kubín, Liptovský Mikuláš, Martin, Námestovo, Ružomberok, Tvrdošín, Žilina and Poprad, there is a first level warning against wind in the mountains. In these districts, on the mountains in positions above 1500 meters, the local occurrence of wind is expected, which will reach a speed of 110 to 135 kilometers in short-term gusts per hour and/or an average speed of 70 to 85 kilometers per hour, ie up to a gale. The mountain wind warning is in effect on Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday (5/6).

SHMÚ also warns against frost in the growing season from 3:00 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The first-level warning applies to some districts in the Banskobystrické, Trenčín, Košice, Prešovské and Žilina regions. “A rare ground frost is expected, which poses a threat to lower vegetation. At a height of five centimeters above the surface, the minimum air temperature is expected to reach zero to minus two degrees Celsius,” stated SHMÚ. A rare ground frost can damage lower vegetation.
