Ukraine declared a unilateral ceasefire. Shortly after midnight, however, she reported drone attacks and airstrikes. Tuesday’s attacks by the Russian army claimed at least 27 civilian lives.
At the time of the unilateral ceasefire, which Ukraine declared from midnight, the authorities of several Ukrainian regions reported on Wednesday about attacks or the announcement of an anti-aircraft alert. In the meantime, they also announced that Tuesday’s attacks by the Russian army claimed at least 27 civilian lives in Ukraine.
As reported by the British station BBC, after midnight Kyiv time (Tuesday 23:00 CEST), there were reports of drone attacks on the Dnepropetrovsk region in central-eastern Ukraine.
Attacks on regions
Ivan Fedorov, the commander of the military administration of southern Ukraine’s Zaporozhye region, said that guided aerial bombs (KAB) were dropped on the region. The authorities of the Kherson region also informed about their use. An air alert was declared in Kherson, Zaporozhye and Sumy regions.
On the occasion of celebrating the victory over Nazi Germany and a military parade on Red Square in Moscow, Russia declared a cease-fire on May 8 and 9.
Reaction of Ukraine
Ukraine responded by proposing a ceasefire starting at midnight on Wednesday (Tuesday 11:00 p.m. CEST) and calling on Moscow to join. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that it is not acceptable for Russia to stop attacks for a day for a parade, while Ukraine is bombarded intensively on a daily basis.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha wrote in a post on the X network that “barely a few hours before the start of the Ukrainian cease-fire proposal, Russia shows no signs of preparing to end the fighting, on the contrary, terror is escalating.”
Incident in Crimea
The Russian-appointed administrator of Crimea, Sergei Aksionov, announced on Wednesday night that a Ukrainian drone attack in the city of Dzhankoy killed five civilians. However, according to available information, the attack probably took place before the start of the Ukrainian ceasefire. No new attacks have been reported since its start.
The Russian leadership practically ignored Ukraine’s proposal. After midnight, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin posted congratulations to World War II veterans and expressed support for the soldiers in Ukraine.
