Englishman Nico (32) noticed a few months ago that he was suffering from severe headaches more and more often. Although at first he didn’t care about it at all, later other symptoms appeared that forced him to see a doctor. It turned out that his problems were caused by stage 4 cancer.
- Nico began to experience short, sharp headaches.
- Gradually, his symptoms worsened, prompting him to seek help.
- Doctors diagnosed him with grade four medulloblastoma and he underwent brain surgery.
At the end of 2025, Nica began to suffer from a sudden, sharp pain that ran through his head every time he sat up in bed in the morning. But it only lasted a few seconds, so it didn’t bother him much. Unfortunately, the headache worsened over the next few days and was accompanied by other symptoms including coughing and sneezing.
After three weeks of excruciating problems, Nico realized something was wrong and made an appointment with a doctor. “After the examination, he sent me to a neurologist, who two hours later arranged for an urgent magnetic resonance imaging. Looking back on it now, I am incredibly grateful that he was able to arrange the examination for me so quickly“, he noted.
The young athlete assumed that he would eventually be relieved. But later he received a call from the hospital saying that they had found something suspicious. “It scared me when they told me to take my family with me. That’s when I knew it was serious,” he added. He was finally diagnosed with grade 4 medulloblastoma and had to undergo brain surgery. “From day one, I just accepted it as a very difficult test. I focused on staying strong, positive and doing my best to get through it,” Nico explained.
Nico is currently undergoing radiotherapy, which takes place five days a week. After it ends, he will have at least six months of chemotherapy. He admitted that he is holding on as best he can for now, but the treatment is taking a toll on his body. “After just a few days I felt extremely tired and without energy“, he added.
In addition, he set a goal to complete his first HYROX race. It is a fitness competition that combines eight kilometers of running and eight other exercise stations. This goal helps him stay motivated and determined to fight. “I wanted to turn this terrible situation into something that could help others,” Nico continued.
The Englishman attributes his quick recovery after brain surgery to positive thinking. He believes that it will help him cope with the difficult months ahead. Although he cannot train at the moment, he tries to walk as much as he can. “It’s very frustrating to feel so limited, but listening to my body is extremely important to me“, he stated.
Nico has also set up a social media account to keep friends and fans updated on the progress of his treatment. To his surprise, sharing his experiences allowed him to raise cancer awareness. “Take advantage of everything life has to offer, stay positive and focus on the people who support you. This trip showed me how lucky I am to have such amazing family and friends” concluded the grateful athlete.
